About Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon Global started out as an idea I had at 17, when I was having a lot of trouble finding/buying alternative clothing and/or accessories, particularly in local shops. Normally, if I wanted to buy such items I would either have to accidentally come across a shop that sold something of interest to me or buy everything mail order. Usually in sterling or dollars and waiting 2-3 weeks for delivery. Hardly ideal but the only option available to me at the time. It's unfair being forced to dress like everyone else simply because there were/are limited options available to you. Not everybody can spend a Saturday around the shops and come home satisfied that they have bought exactly what they were looking for. If you want to support your local businesses, shouldn't you be a happy customer at the same time?

12 years on, and still with a huge interest in the unusual, (and a Neil Young fan) I decided to start my own company that does exactly what I was looking for all those years ago. A big difference is that you can purchase your order in euro and have it delivered (locally and subject to availability) within a few days. I accept all the major credit/debit cards including laser, specifically because not everyone has a credit card and why should they be restricted to borrowing someone else's card or worse, not buying at all? I was lucky enough to not only find an excellent supplier with the clothing I was looking for but they deal primarily with Fair Trade products which was the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned.

For those who have an interest in darker clothing and an eye for the unusual (like myself), please check out our Alchemy 1977 range also, featuring hand crafted, solid pewter gifts/gothic jewellery and clothing.

Many thanks and appreciation for your custom and if you were just checking us out, welcome and please return soon.

About Nomads Clothing

In India, it is illegal to employ children under 16 years old and this law is upheld by all of Nomads suppliers. Workers are paid a good hourly rate. The wages are fixed by the Indian Government according to unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled. All employees’ wages either meet or go above these levels of pay. There are also equal opportunities for men and women who are paid the same wage for the same work - which is very important to fairtrade principles.

Pension schemes are in place which employees may join and the companies make contributions. The manufacturers benefit from a variety of grants and tax relief as a result of exporting goods for foreign currency. This is an incentive for the factories to maintain good working conditions and responsible working practices. With regular visits throughout the year, Nomads clothing are able to monitor these standards and to work towards improvements.

Environmental Issues

Waste fabric from our garments is recycled to make bags and rugs. We also have garments which are made from recycled sari fabric. We have strived to change the dyes used by our suppliers, and we now use AZO FREE dye. Some of our ranges use natural based dyes.

Natural Fabrics

We use natural fibres for 95% of our products, mostly cottons. This year we have introduced an organic cotton range, which is much better fior the local environment where cotton is farmed.

Natural Dyes

  • Environmental choice in dying and therefore environment friendly. Makes use of natural materials that are easily obtainable in the producers environment. Fuel costs are reduced and time is saved by having necessary ingredients available close by.
  • Non-Toxic & non allergic hazard free for skin.
  • Colours are longer lasting and have good resistance to moth attacks

Nomads Fair Trade Actions

  • Guarantees that no children under the age of 16 make our products
  • Provides equality for men and women in pay and opportunity within the workplace
  • Pays a fair wage to all workers that is either at or above the national average
  • Ensures safe working conditions and regular breaks/holidays for all workers
  • Prepays producers in advance so that they do not go into debt buying materials
  • Promotes traditional crafts such as Handloom Khadi, Hand Block Printing, Aree Embroidery, and Hand Tie Dye. This keeps traditions alive and provides vital income for villages
